Charity Information
The Animal Rescue Charity was founded in 1990 by mother and daughter Jan Rose and Fiona Piggott after taking in strays from the local police dog pound. News travelled fast and soon waifs and strays where being left on their doorstep. Desperate funding and a more suitable home for these animals initiated the creation of the Charity, now affectionately known as “the small charity with a big heart” . Their aims are to: provide a safe haven (sanctuary) for neglected, unwanted and abandoned animals and wherever possible to treat and re-habilitate all animals including wildlife; provide a sanctuary as they see it being a place of protection; and, finally, a refuge.
Website Requirements
The Animal Rescue Charity already had quite a nice Website when they first approached us. The main issue they were having with their existing Website, was that, the person responsible for the initial Website was no longer available and, therefore, they were unable to edit any of the content within the Website.
Initially, they just wanted us to take on the management of the existing Website. However, on further discussion, it was agreed, a completly new site design would be a more beneficial and cost effective approach to take. This allowed for much more interactive features to be built into the new Website, including a user driven News Management system, allowing our client to update their Website with breaking news articles and upcoming events.
To showcase the animal residents at the Charity, a user driven Online Photo Gallery was also installed, making it extremely easy to add pictures of new residents, as well as, perhaps, allowing the public to send in pictures, they have also taken of the animal residents.
Website Template Modifications
The biggest change to the default Template, was to include a sequence of animated pictures in the main Website Banner. The original design just had two pictures, the new design has six. The footer menu was also changed to include more links and an automated copyright year display.i
The Homepage was, mostly, based on the original Template, with the exception, the two news blocks of text were replaced with four summaries of some of the key pages within the site.
None of the other default page layouts were required and, instead, a new page layout was created to display the detailed pages and the contact page. All pictures within the default template were replaced with the client's own pictures.
Contact page was completely redesigned to include Captcha facilities for the Online Form and an interactive Google map was also integrated, clearly showing where the charity is located (default post code find was insufficient).
