Website Requirements
Caterprint's first Website was developed when owning a Website was still a novelty for most businesses. It did not make particularly good use of available technology, especially, the application of Flash™. It was difficult to navigate and Management became concerned it may be doing them more harm than good.
When the decision was reached to replace the old site, they already had a clear idea of how they wanted the site to look and feel. Written content for the new site was already completed, leaving just the design work to be completed. Since they were keen to keep their new Website fresh with updated information and services, it was important for the new site to be easily maintained by themselves.
Website Development
Our client had already drafted mock-up screens for the new Website and emailed them to us for initial review. Having looked at page structures, colour schemes and font sizes, we developed a mock-up of one of the main pages, the Homepage. To give an idea of our client's initial design and our mock-up version, please click the above links.
However, after discussing our design, our client decided they wished to go with a version that closely reflects their initial design. With this brief, we made many cosmetic changes to the initial design to give the new Website a professional and polished feel. We recreated the business name and Logo to improve it's appearance. Reduced the space between buttons and added roll-over effects to reflect the colours in the business name. Reduced the font size and added larger bullet points. Removed the cream background colour, giving the page more definition. Resized all images to fit in with page design. Reduced the size of page headers and added a page footer to give the page more balance.
All button roll-over effects were created using CSS styles. This enables our client to easily add new service pages and Buttons can be updated by simply attaching a predefined Style Sheet i.e. no complicated javascript is required.
