Website Requirements

Since much effort and planning has gone into the new City Slickers brand image, a professional, yet slick Website presence was required to showcase the current range of Cufflinks and help propel the brand into the very competitive Cufflinks industry. Further Cufflinks will be added to the range, making it important, therefore, for City Slickers to have facilities for updating their own Website. To achieve this, one of our stylish, yet simpler Design Templates was chosen as the basis for the overall look-and-feel of the new Website together with our Content Management Add-on Module.

Since the City Slickers range of Designer Cufflinks are the stars of the show, information on the company and it's suppliers were kept to an absolute minimum. Instead, the core of the new Website was to concentrate on the the Cufflinks and how best to display them. Together with management, we came up with the novel idea of giving each Cufflink a brief design history. This helped differentiate the City Slickers range from, virtually, all other competitors and gave the new Website a true, Designer feel to it. Together with the slick operation of the picture pop-up windows, the overall impression the Website gives, is one of quality and simplicity.

Website Template Modifications

Although the Design Template was developed purely in Flash, we decided to develop an HTML version for the core pages. This gives better Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and enables our client to edit existing pages and add new pages as they wish, giving greater Search Engine exposure and flexibility.

Since our client did not, particularly, like the music, accompanying the design, it was removed together with the sound effects when the main links were clicked. The short Flash intro was retained, giving visitors an interesting feel to the Website without overly delaying them to the main part of the Website. Pictures were changed in the animated boxes to reflect our clients own products.

For the Supplier and About Us pages, a similar layout was used to the main Cufflink pages, giving the Website a good consistent feel to it. These two pages were coloured coordinated to the Intro page, with our client's logo being inserted together with new pictures to the right of the logo. Paragraph headers and hyperlinks were also changed to reflect the colour of the page.

At this stage, we also improved the main Navigation Menu by including Buttons to each of the key areas of the Website. Previously, there was just a Back Button, making it a bit tedious for the visitor to reach each of the key pages.

For the Cufflinks page, we created an Additional Navigation Menu, making it much quicker and simpler for visitors to view each Cufflink in the range. Links were also colour coordinated to the overall page colour. Whereas, most Websites use traditional pop-up window technology to display larger product images, these can look clumsy in the context of our clients design. To overcome this, all pop-up image windows (shown when hovering over Cufflink images), appear as a borderless layer, giving the site a professional feel to it.

The Contact page was redeveloped and the Online Form was extended to allow more information to be retrieved.
