Company Information
J & N Interiors, based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, are a family business with 30 years experience in Interior Design. They are able to advise on every aspect of design for the Home Owner or Business environment. They offer: a comprehensive range of carpets, vinyls including Karndean, woods, laminates, commercial and contract flooring and a professional fitting service; a massive wall coverings library including some unique in the North Hertfordshire area with both machine and hand printed papers; specialist, designer paint ranges from Fired Earth and Malabar; curtain, soft furnishing and upholstery fabrics, voiles and sheers and a made-to-measure curtain and blind service with fitting available, if required, as well as an Interior Design service including window dressing design.
Website Requirements
Caroline Hall of J & N Interiors said, "We were keen to develop a Website that reflects the quality of our work and what we are about. Being Designers, we were aware visitors would have a greater expectation of the design qualities of our new site. First impressions are very important. However, our main objective for the new site was to give visitors the opportunity of learning more about our services at a time that suits them. Personally, I do not like pushy sales people and prefer to gather information and make contact at a time that suits me and not the supplier. Having a Website, means visitors can find out more about us 24/7. It gives clients a different method for contacting us and does not restrict them to visiting our showroom or having to call during business hours".
Website Template Modifications
The biggest change to this Template, was changing it from a, purely, Flash site to one that includes both Flash and HTML. This approach makes the Website much more Search Engine friendly. It was decided, to keep the animated site intro since it offers a nice welcome to the Website. The Navigation options were modified and our client's logo included. Since, the first page the visitor sees is purely Flash animated, a HTML link was included in the footer to take Search Engines to the Sitemap, allowing them to index the whole site.
The Template About Us page was modified to move the page towards the top of the Browser Window, allowing more content to be included. The page was lengthened to include two other sections, giving visitors more options and information about some of the internal pages. The hyperlinks were created in normal font (no bold) and a roll-over effect created. Supplier logos were included at the foot of the page.
A new page design was developed for the Why Use Us/About Us page and is accessed from the main About Us page. The Template Service page was lengthened to include an area for describing an overview of the services. Links to other services and the Featured Service were moved to the right, giving the page good balance. A new page design was created for each of the services, giving visitors the option of more information, if required. A sub-menu was included on each page making all services available with a single click.
The Collections page was redesigned to include a gallery of images. The main image is shown via an i-frame (invisible window), making the page much faster to load. The Contact page was modified to include a dynamic link to a Mapping Website and two additional fields included in the On-line Form. The same page design was used for the Sitemap.
