What Is Web Content Management

Although, simple updates to Websites we design, are free-of-charge, some clients prefer the freedom of maintaining it themselves.

Our Websites are developed using the world's leading Web Design software, Macromedia. Macromedia have developed a Web Content Management solution, Contribute, that allows website owners to access their Websites and make modifications without any knowledge of Web design. It also allows Website owners to add additional pages and is, therefore, an ideal tool for adding new site content.

How it works

The Holt Partnership, enable Websites for user updates, during initial site development. We define areas, users can update and areas that are off-limits, such as, main Navigation Menus.

Once developed, Website owners are given passwords to access and edit their Websites. If more than one user will be updating the site, the system, can even, be set up to force certain users to have their alterations reviewed by other members of staff before updating the live Website.

24/7 User Access

Users, access and edit their Websites by installing Macromedia Contribute on their local PC. To edit a page on their site, they use the integrated Web Browser to locate the page and then click an Edit Button to make modifications. An edit can take as little as a few minutes to complete.

Roll Back To One Of 99 Previous Versions

If an error has been made or the user wants to revert back to a previous version of the page, the system is able to roll back to one of 99 previous versions of the page. Each time a page is edited, it goes through a check out and check in procedure. This ensures, two people cannot work on the same page, simultaneously.

Expand Your Website By Adding Unlimited Number Of Pages

Creating a new page could not be simpler. Users can chose from a selection of page templates, created by us, or copy an existing page and edit that. Users can upload new images from their own computer or access existing pictures from the Website Image Folder. The system also offers, simple picture editing, to ensure files are of a certain size and width.

Import PDF Files

Files can be imported from many other applications, such as, Microsoft Office, retaining the same look and feel. They can either, be embedded into the Web page, or using the latest FlashPaper technology from Macromedia, turn the document into a PDF or Flash file.

Content Management is ideal for those users, intending to, significantly, increase the number of pages on their Website and offer new content. Significant savings can be made compared to paying us to create new pages, currently, £75 per page.

Integration with your Website

Content Management can be integrated into Websites at any time. Once deciding to purchase the module, it can be up and running on Websites within a matter of days. There is a one-off configuration cost of £245 (plus VAT, where applicable) plus the cost of purchasing Contribute user licences, currently, £200 per licence (resides on client PC).

Web Site Content Management Solution

Main Page

From this page, users can browse to the page they want to edit. It is made up of three panels. The first panel keeps a check on each of the pages currently being edited by the user. The second panel, offers help on using Contribute. The third and main panel, shows the page currently being edited. Once edits have been made, they can either be published, sent for review or saved for later.

Sending Edits For Review

Depending on user settings, the user has an option to send their edits for review. By clicking the "Send For Review" button, a pop-up window appears giving the user options who to send it to. To keep track of which pages have been sent for review, the user can open a Draft Console showing when they were sent and easy access to retrieve the original draft.

Creating A New page

With a single click of a button, users can create a new page by either, copying and renaming the page they are currently on, or choosing from a list of pre-defined Website templates created by The Holt Partnership.

Help System

Contribute has an extensive help facility covering all aspects of using the system. It even has an inbuilt tutorial to bring new users up to speed very quickly. User can view by Content, Index, search or by favourite pages.
