What Is Keyword Density Analysis And Why Is It Important
Keyword density, is the number of times a particular keyword or phrase is used on a web page, in relation to the total number of words. Keyword density, is calculated by Search Engines and used in their algorithms to score Websites.
Generally, the optimum level for keyword density, lies between 1% and 7%. Although, in some cases, it is safe to exceed this amount, the Website owner has to be careful, not to make a habit of it and can be penalised for, excessively, high percentages. Although, some businesses use keyword density analysis as their main approach for optimising web pages, the majority, use keyword density analysis in tandem with an investigation into the Top Ten Ranking Websites for any particular search phrase.

You tell us, what keywords or search phrases are to be used for the keyword density analysis, the page URL within your Website the report relates to, and the URL of another Website to be used as the comparison (would normally be one of the top ten ranking Websites for the search phrase being analysed). This information, is fed into our system and a report generated, showing keyword density analysis for the following areas;
- Document Title - seen at the top of all web pages and is one of the few areas of keyword density analysis that can exceed 7%.
- Body Text - the main content of the web page and should,
typically, not exceed the optimum keyword density percentage. - Bold Body Text - this is text in "bold" format within the main content.
- Meta Keywords - invisible to the visitor and is designed to tell
Search engines what the page is about. Although, many experts believe Meta Keywords are not as important as they once were, it may be prudent to optimise this tag in the event Search
Engines give it more prominence in the future. - Meta Description - similar to the keywords Tag, experts believe it is not as important as it once was. however, some Search
engines do still use it in their results, therefore, it may be
prudent to optimise it. - H1 to H4 Headline Texts - this is text within the main body that, typically, has special formatting applied to it to make it stand out from the surrounding text i.e. paragraph headings.
- Same Site URLs - analysis internal URLs to determine if any of the keywords are included.
- Outbound Links URLs - as above, but for links going to external websites.
- Same Site Link Text - analyses internal link text
- External Site Link Text - analyses external link text.
- Img Alt Attributes - this is the description applied to graphics.
- HTML Comment Tags - invisible web page comments regarding areas of the source code.
